Our approach · three things we believe

Three things we believe about therapy.

We're a small practice on purpose. The way we work has stayed the same since 2017, and we don't intend to change it.

01
Fit matters more than credentials

Find the right therapist, first.

Research is overwhelmingly clear: who you work with matters more than what model they use. We offer free 20-minute consultations with up to three therapists at no charge — and we'll help you choose, honestly.

02
No rushed appointments

Real hours. Real conversations.

Every session is a full 50 minutes. We never double-book, never cut early, never end a session because the next person is in the waiting room. If you need more time, we can usually find it.

03
Money should never be the reason

A real sliding scale.

Our rate ranges from $60 to $185 per session, based on what's genuinely affordable. We do not means-test, do not ask for documentation, and we hold roughly 30% of every therapist's caseload at reduced rates.

Services · what we offer

What we can help with.

Our therapists work with a wide range of presentations, with several practising specialties. If something isn't listed here, please ask — we'll tell you honestly whether we're the right fit or refer you elsewhere.

Meet our therapists.

Every therapist on our team is fully licensed (LCSW, LPC, or PsyD), insured, and in regular peer supervision. We hire slowly and only when we have someone we'd trust with our own families.

Fees & sliding scale

A real sliding scale. No paperwork.

We hold roughly 30% of every therapist's caseload at reduced rates — anywhere from $60 to the standard rate. We don't ask for tax returns, pay stubs, or documentation. You tell us what you can sustain, and we set the rate together at intake.

Insurance: we are out-of-network with all major insurers. We provide a monthly superbill for clients who have out-of-network mental-health benefits; many do. If money is the reason you're not starting, please write anyway.

"

After two false starts with other practices, what made the difference at Quiet Room was that they spent more time helping me find the right person than selling me a session. I've been working with the same therapist for nineteen months now. It is the best decision I have made for myself in a decade.

Things people ask, before they call

Frequently asked.

Do you take insurance?

We are out-of-network with all insurers. We provide a monthly superbill that you can submit for reimbursement if your plan has out-of-network mental-health benefits — many do. If you want to know what your reimbursement might look like, our practice manager will check your benefits for you at no charge before you book.

Are sessions in-person or online?

Both. We have a quiet office on the second floor of a brick building on Pearl Street in Boulder, with five rooms, comfortable furniture, and a small waiting area that nobody ever has to share. Online sessions are conducted over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform — we'll send you the link before your first session.

How long does therapy usually last?

It depends entirely on what you're working through. Our average client stays in therapy for about 11 months, but the range is enormous — some people work through a specific issue in eight sessions; others come weekly for years. You're never locked in. If you want to pause, end, or change therapists, we'll help you do it gracefully.

What if I don't click with my therapist?

Please tell us. We promise not to be hurt. Roughly one in seven of our clients switches to a different therapist in the practice within their first three sessions, and another small number realize Quiet Room isn't the right fit at all — in which case we'll help you find one that is. Fit matters more than credentials. We mean that.

Can I bring up something specific in the first session?

Yes, of course. Some people come in with a clear topic; some come in to figure out what the topic is. Both are entirely fine. Your therapist won't push you to talk about anything you're not ready to talk about, and they won't take notes during the session unless you ask them to.

What if I'm in crisis right now?

Please don't wait for an appointment. Call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) for immediate support. If you're in immediate danger, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. Once you're safe, we'd be glad to support you in your ongoing care — but our practice cannot provide crisis services directly.
