A small countryside studio for yoga, breathwork, and seasonal retreats. Forty minutes from London, set against twenty acres of wildflower meadow and old oak woodland.
No power yoga, no hot rooms, no heart-rate competitions. The work is gentler than that, and harder than that — the kind of practice that gets more interesting the longer you stay with it.
Long-held postures with attention to breath, alignment, and what the body is actually telling you on this particular day. Suited to every body — beginner to lifelong practitioner.
View teachersBolster-supported postures held five to fifteen minutes. A nervous-system practice. We finish with a long savasana under wool blankets and the sound of birdsong from the meadow.
View teachersConscious breathing as its own practice — not a warm-up. Pranayama traditions and contemporary breathwork blended into ninety-minute classes that meaningfully change how you feel.
View teachersForty-five minutes of silent sitting practice with brief instruction from a teacher trained in insight meditation and Tibetan traditions. Cushions and benches provided. Tea served after.
View teachersA specialised class for women through the hormonal transitions of midlife. Cooling postures, supportive breathwork, and a community of others moving through the same.
View teachersCrystal bowl and gong immersions in our barn studio, by candlelight. Suited to anyone — no movement required, only the willingness to lie down for an hour. Run twice monthly.
View teachersWe built Stillwater because every studio we'd practiced in for twenty years was getting louder, faster, and harder. We wanted somewhere that got quieter instead.
Nina opened Stillwater in 2017 after fifteen years teaching in London, Mumbai, and Mysore. She trained in the Iyengar tradition and later with Vipassana teachers in Burma and Sri Lanka.
Today she leads our morning sit six days a week, runs the perimenopause programme she developed in partnership with NHS clinicians, and writes a quarterly journal that goes out to 14,000 readers.
Four retreats a year, tied to the solstices and equinoxes. Twelve guests, two teachers, one cook. We keep the format small on purpose. They book out months ahead — we'd rather under-promise on places than dilute what makes them work.

Yes — many of our students started with us. Our Slow Hatha and Restorative classes are explicitly designed for beginners and lifelong practitioners to share the same room. Tell whichever teacher is leading that it's your first class; they'll take care of the rest.
Loose, comfortable clothes you can move and breathe in. We provide all mats, bolsters, blankets, and props — you only need yourself and a water bottle. We have showers and changing rooms if you're heading to the train after.
The fastest route is the train from Paddington to Kemble (75 minutes), then a 12-minute taxi. We can arrange a shared shuttle from Kemble for retreat guests, included in the price. There's also direct parking on site for drivers — free, no booking needed.
Classes cancelled six or more hours ahead are fully refunded or credited. Retreats have a 30-day notice policy with full refund; cancellations inside 30 days are credited to a future retreat. We don't penalise anyone for life happening.
They can be — many people come to us during difficult periods. We'd encourage a conversation first; sometimes a one-to-one session is more appropriate than a group retreat, and we'll help you decide. There's no pressure either way.
Four times a year. Solstices and equinoxes. A reflection from Nina, the next retreat dates, sometimes a recipe. Never anything you'd call marketing.
